About OIT > Systems & Applications
Systems & Applications is responsible for the deployment, administration, maintenance, and support of all on-campus mission-critical enterprise servers and software. Systems & Applications services are provided by three major groups:
Software Engineering Group
Whenever enterprise-level software acquisition, integration and custom application development services are required, the campus turns to the Software Engineering Group. The Software Engineering Group provides comprehensive software consulting and analysis to help clients specify and refine their enterprise application needs.
Working with its campus customers, the Software Engineering Group performs thorough enterprise software market analyses to determine if existing commercial packages will best satisfy a client’s requirements before committing to develop custom applications. When custom applications must be developed, the Software Engineering Group draws on its expertise in user interface design, object-oriented programming, database architectures, process modeling, secure coding, and software testing to deliver high quality, robust applications that meet or exceed user needs.
Current projects include identity management, the UNLV web portal and business intelligence tools.

Systems Group
The Systems Group provides comprehensive enterprise systems and database administration services including planning and growth projections, specification, hardware and software installation, testing, performance tuning, upgrading, and maintenance. These enterprise-class systems are designed to be highly available, redundant and secure. All systems are monitored on a 24/7 basis. The Systems Manager position is currently vacant.
Applications Security Administration
Many UNLV staff members need to access confidential or restricted enterprise data to successfully perform their job functions. The designated data custodians of the student, human resources and financial information systems review each staff member’s request to access such enterprise data for appropriateness and necessity.
When access to confidential or restricted enterprise data is approved, the Applications Security Group creates and enables the required access for the UNLV employee on the respective system(s). The Applications Security Group processes security application forms, maintains security records, monitors enterprise data security permissions and undergoes regular internal and external data security audits.
If you need access to confidential or restricted enterprise data, you should submit your request on the forms provided at newuser.unlv.edu.
