Initiated in 2006, this committee coordinates changes and upgrades to the university's course managment system, Webcampus, also known as WebCT.

CMSCC Function

  • Develop, maintain, and keep current the campus Course
    Management System
  • Coordinate transitions to upgrades to the course management system
  • Respond to implementation issues
  • Evaluate requests for enhancements to system and requests for access for non-credit academic experiences
  • Review policies regarding the course management system and oversee the policy approval process

Accomplishments

  • Transitioned the campus from WebCT Campus Edition to WebCampus (WebVISTA) via pilot program, faculty training sessions, open labs, email notices to faculty and instructors/chairs/deans
  • Several members attended annual WebCT conference, 4/07
    Evaluated 24/7 help desk support via Presidium; service initiated 3/07
  • Nearly doubled the number of courses offered from Fall ’05 to Fall ‘06
  • OIT staff installed Service Pack fixes and conducted ongoing testing of system’s robustness to ensure non-interruption of services
  • Participation in Southwest VISTA Conference at UNLV, 3/14/07 & 3/15/07, by several members of the group

Agenda Topics

  • Explore peer-to-peer support
  • Determine best approaches to integrating links from courses to library resources
  • Discuss ways to accommodate students with special needs, e.g., requiring extra time to complete exams
  • Explore the feasibility of offering training to non-teaching professional staff, administrative classified staff, and staff that support non-credit academic experiences
  • Discuss possibility of offering in-depth WebCampus workshop at new student orientation
  • Continue to review the ongoing collaboration with vendor, Presidium, providing 24/7 help desk support for WebCampus
  • Develop mechanisms for eliciting faculty/instructor feedback
  • Respond to feedback from Impediments to Teaching Task Force report
  • Consider developing Webinairs
