Faculty & Staff > BlackBerry
The Office of Information Technology supports BlackBerry devices for faculty and staff at UNLV. The BlackBerry is a handheld wireless device that provides e-mail, telephone, text messaging, web browsing and other wireless data access. BlackBerries use push-based technology that automatically delivers
e-mail and calendar entries to your handheld.
You don't need to synchronize data via a dial-up
or wired connection, like you would if you use a Palm Pilot or PocketPC device. Additional information about BlackBerry can be found at http://www.blackberry.com.
To get a BlackBerry:
- Purchase a BlackBerry device and cell/data
service from providers such as Cingular,
Sprint or Verizon. For the current list of approved cell/data service
providers and their representatives please visit the Purchasing Campus
Contracts website at purchasing.unlv.edu
- Send your annual client access license fee
to OIT. BlackBerry service requires payment to the Office of
Information Technology for the annual client license. The current cost is $150.
Once you have purchased your BlackBerry device
and ordered service, complete the Blackberry Request Form. Send the completed BAR
form to mail stop 1075, attn: OIT BlackBerry.
Service will not be enabled until the IDR
form has been completed and processed by OIT.
The Office of Information Technology will
invoice you or your department every year for the
Client Access License. Failure to renew your license within
30 days will result in loss of service.
