Faculty & Staff > Computer Replacement Program
Initiated in 2005, the Academic Affairs Computer Replacement Program's primary goal is to ensure faculty and staff computers, in academic departments at UNLV, meet standards. The Provost Office provides $500,000 annually to support the replacement cycle.
Use the links below to jump to information you need in order to participate, or scroll down the page.
Instructions
The deadline for submitting computer requests passed on February 6th. OIT is currently interviewing employees regarding their replacement computers.
Computer Allocations
Colleges have been allocated a fixed amount of replacements this year based on total percentage of FTE. Computers built prior to July 1, 2003 will be the only computers replaced by the AACRP 2008.

Your UNLV Property Control Number is located on either side of the computer. The tag looks like this:

*Please record the UNLV Property Control Number that is located on the computer, not the monitor or attached peripherals.

Determine Serial Number & Manufacture Date
First, determine the computer manufacturer (Dell, Gateway, Apple or Other). Then, follow the instructions below:
Apple
- Go to the Apple Warranty Website
- Enter the serial number of your computer into the field marked About Your Support Coverage located halfway down the page on the left hand side. If you don’t know what your Macintosh’s serial number is, follow the link below the Serial Number text field labeled Where do I find my serial number?
- Click "Continue," and the page will refresh to show the warranty status of your computer. The estimated date of purchase is the date your computer was shipped from Apple and what UNLV considers the manufacture date.
DELL
- Go to Dell’s Support site.
- Enter the service tag (which is the serial number) of your computer into the field marked “Service Tag.” To determine the service tag, follow the link to Find my service tag.
- Click Continue, to view the warranty status of your computer. Among the important details here is the column labeled “Start Date.” The Start Date is what we consider the manufacture date.
Gateway
* As of Febuary 1, 2008 the Gateway Website is not fully operational. Micron, the company which purchased Gateway, is integrating the two websites together. So instead of validating your serial numbers through the Gateway webpage please contact Gateway by phone at (888) 888-2040. Use this pin number: 60378.
- (SEE ABOVE) Go to Gateway’s Support site.
- Enter the serial number of your computer into the field marked “Serial Number.” If you don’t know what your serial number, or where to find it, follow the link below the Serial Number text field labeled How to find my serial#.
- Click Submit to see a page that shows the warranty status of your computer. Look for the line labeled Ship Date. The Ship Date is the date your computer was shipped from Gateway and, for our purposes, the manufacture date.
Other Computers
If you have a portable computer from a vendor other than Dell, Gateway or Apple, contact Erika Leaper or David Heiser (below). If you provide them with a state number, they can assist you in determining the age of the computer.
