Desktop Computers

Signs you may be the victim of malware

  • Your computer is running slower than usual
  • You notice changes on your computer that you did not make -- a change in your browser's home page, new icons in your task bar or on your desktop, or unusual displays on your desktop
  • An increasing number of popups appear
  • Your friends tell you you've been spamming them

Note: any of the above problems could have non-malware causes.

Report a desktop problem

Call the IT Help Desk or the Student Help Desk and provide a detailed description of your problem, when it began, and possible causes.

Servers or systems with sensitive data

If there are signs of problems with any system serving or storing sensitive data, contact the IT Help Desk and also e-mail the OIT Information Security Office.

If you fear that sensitive data may have been compromised, immediately notify your supervisor and contact the Office of Information Technology administration at 895-1886.
