Security Alert: Beware 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics Websites

The 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea started last Friday. Special events like these create an opportunity for malicious actors to prey on people looking to find more information.
Be mindful of possible attacks and protect yourself:
  • Phishing Attacks: Hackers may send emails that appear to be genuine Olympic update emails but may contain malware or links to malicious websites. Before you open an emails, verify that the email is actually from the expected sender. Then verify that any links in the email link to legitimate sites. If you have any suspicions, do not click the links and navigate to the site some other way. 
  • Olympic Coverage: Malicious actors may create websites that recycle Olympic coverage from official websites but contain malware that can automatically download to your computer. It best to only use official Olympic or news websites.
  • Mobile Apps: Malicious actors may also release Olympics-related apps that contain malware. Be exceptionally careful when downloading any apps to your mobile devices.
