Important changes to how you will access and use Computer Labs and Teaching Labs

Over winter break, we transitioned various UNLV Lab Computer Services to a new authentication service which uses UNLV ACE accounts (currently used to access VPN, iLeave, MUNIS, Archibus, and similar campus systems).

As a result of this transition, there are several changes to how faculty and students use the Computer Labs and Computer Teaching Labs.

Latest OS X Update Removes Java Plug-In From Web Browsers

Apple's latest update for OS X 10.7 and 10.8 removes the Apple-provided Java plug-in from all OS X web browsers. This update is labeled "Java for OS X 2012-006" and was released October 16, 2012.

Because Java is required by several campus web applications, you may receive a "Missing Plug-in" message when you load a web site that requires Java. Clicking the arrow icon in this message will install the Java plug-in from Oracle.

Important Qualtrics and SurveyTool News

Qualtrics is a research survey tool available for UNLV faculty, staff, and students through a university-wide site license. This tool will make it easier for the campus community to create surveys, conduct research, collect and store data, and create reports.

Qualtrics is easy-to-use yet powerful enough to satisfy most researchers. Tutorials, webinars, and useful documentation all are available via Qualtrics University, which includes its five-step online training program to help you master Qualtrics.

UNLV IT Master Planning to Commence October 17th

As part of the Focus 50 to 100 initiatives for 2012-13 announced at the state of the university address, the campus is developing its first ever UNLV IT Master Plan. The plan will provide a blueprint of the technology necessary to support the instructional, research, and administrative vision of UNLV as a first choice institution. It will require collaboration between technical and non-technical members of the campus community, faculty, staff, students, and administrators.

WebCampus Support Changes Began May 1

On April 30, 2012, the UNLV contract with the third party WebCampus support provider, Blackboard Student Services, ended. The Office of Online Education, who owned this contract, has decided to reinvest in UNLV, and support is now being provided internally. As of May 1, 2012, all WebCampus support is being handled by the IT help desk in the Office of Information Technology, with dedicated WebCampus support specialists on staff. This has meant some important and exciting changes to WebCampus support.

Students: Recent Change in Microsoft Office Licensing and Price

Due to changes in Microsoft licensing and the programs that it offers for students, Microsoft Office 2010 Pro and Microsoft Office 2011 are no longer available from Kivuto as of March 26, 2012.

Kivuto now offers Microsoft's University Package as a replacement program.  This new, similar package will cost $99.95 and will still be available for students to purchase for use on their home computers.

Many Campus Services Unavailable - Midnight to 8am, March 10

Many campus applications will be unavailable from midnight until 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 10. OIT system administrators will be making changes to address issues experienced earlier this week.

MyUNLV Maintenance Saturday, Feb. 18, Midnight to Noon

Campus Community,

MyUNLV will be unavailable Saturday, February 18 from 12:00 AM to 12:00 PM. During this time, system engineers will replace a faulty piece of hardware and administrators will upgrade our database server software to the latest supported version. This upgrade will enable us to provide enhanced security.
