Windows Computer Maintenance

It is important to update Windows computers to ensure the best security, system reliability, program compatibility, and functionality.  Sometimes these updates are even required in order to use certain features or systems. For example, the new UNLV-Secure  wireless service, coming this fall, will require the most recent Service Packs. Check your laptop and desktop for these items:

  • Run Windows updates regularly, or turn on Automatic Updates to run each week.
  • If you have Windows XP, please ensure you have SP3 (Service Pack 3) and all updates
  • If you have Windows Vista, please ensure you have at least SP1 (Service Pack 1) and all updates

These updates can take a long time to download and install, and usually require a reboot, so be sure to start them when you have the time.
