We are excited to announce that the eduroam Wi-Fi network is now available on campus. Eduroam is unique service that allows faculty, staff, and students to use secure Wi-Fi at thousands of partner universities, now including UNLV, and over 85 countries across the world.

To help you get connected, please stop by either IT Help Desk location in SU 231 or CBC B113.

You can also set up your eduroam connection yourself. For each device you wish to connect:

UNLV is proud to offer all our faculty, staff, and students free subscriptions to Lynda.com’s library of online tutorials.

On Thursday, November 30, our Lynda.com representative will be on campus. We’d like to invite faculty and staff to join us for a workshop to learn how to:

  • Access Lynda.com’s library of 5,000+ video tutorials

  • Integrate video tutorials into your course design

Campus Wi-Fi, including UNLV-Secure, UNLV-Guest, UNLV-Setup and eduroam, will be unavailable from 2 - 6 a.m. this Friday, November 10 as we install necessary security patches.

Please contact the IT Help Desk if you have any questions or if you experience connection issues following the change.

Beginning on Wednesday, November 8, the university will require users to set up multi-factor authentication for logging into Workday from off campus.

  • If you have not already set up a secondary authentication method, you will be prompted to set up one of three options the next time you log into Workday:

    • SMS authentication

    • Voice call authentication (note: It is recommended that you do not use your work desk phone number)

From 12:01 a.m. - 8 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, WebCampus and a number of other services will be unavailable as we transfer their databases to newer, more reliable storage hardware.

Services currently hosted on the impacted server, Cluster 2, that will be unavailable include:

The Secure File Transfer system, which allows users to securely send up to 2GB of attachments to UNLV and non-UNLV recipients, has been updated.

Please note the URL of the service has changed to sft.oit.unlv.edu. While sharefiles.oit.unlv.edu will continue to work for now, you should update your bookmarks to use the new URL.

Additionally, you may notice the following other changes:

The RebelCard office is now open from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month in addition to our normal hours.

Visit us to pick up or replace your RebelCard and deposit RebelCash Saturday, October 21, November 18, and December 16.

Group directories, also known as the "X:" Drive, will be unavailable from 12:01 a.m. through 6 a.m. on Tuesday, October 24 as OIT moves these directories to a new server.

To avoid losing any unsaved changes, save all files, logoff or shutdown your computer before leaving work on Monday, and avoid saving files or making changes to X: Drive folders during the maintenance window.

During the outage window, you should be able to open and read files if necessary, but any changes to files, folders, etc. made during this time will not be saved.

The Office of Information Technology invites faculty to join us at noon on Friday, October 13 in CBC B-117  for a workshop with Deb Pires, life sciences faculty with the University of California, Los Angeles, to learn strategies for using clickers and increasing active learning in the classroom.  

This one-hour workshop will include:

  • Three before-and-after examples of how to change elements of a traditional lecture into active learning techniques.

The Office of Information Technology will conduct maintenance on campus wireless hardware from 2 - 6 a.m. on Saturday, September 30. 
 
During this time, all UNLV wireless services will be unavailable. This includes UNLV-Secure and UNLV-Guest networks.
 
Please note that the 24/7 computer lab in TBE A311 is available for students who need to access the Internet during this time.
