UNLV Wi-Fi is now available in BHS, CHE, CBC-B, FTC, and GRA

In partnership with Consolidated Students of the University of Nevada (CSUN), the Office of Information Technology has installed additional wireless access points in BHS, CHE, FTC and GRA to expand the campus WiFi network. Additionally, work to provide WiFi access throughout CBC-B is now complete.

Over the next few months, OIT will continue to install wireless access points to include:

Join OIT for Lotus Notes migration information sessions on 4/29, 4/30 (Main campus) and 5/22 (Shadow Lane Campus)

The Office of Information Technology will hold three information sessions regarding the upcoming migration from Lotus Notes to UNLVMail (powered by Google Apps for Education). 

The sessions will be held at the Student Union Theater from 10 - 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, and from 2 - 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30. 

An additional session for the Shadow Lane Campus will be held on May 22, from noon - 1 p.m. 

TBE data center router will be restarted at 12:05 a.m. on Saturday, April 26.

From 12:05 a.m. until 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, the Office of Information Technology will conduct maintenance on the TBE data center router in order to resolve a minor administration issue.
 
A momentary outage may occur while the system switches traffic to a backup system. Service should otherwise not be affected by this change.

 

Lotus Notes Traveler users may need to reinstall the application.

To address a security concern, Lotus Notes administrators will update the Traveler application at 2:30 p.m. today.

You may have to uninstall and reinstall the Traveler on your mobile device in order to access your account.

Please note: you must install Traveler from the UNLV Lotus Notes Traveler website. Do not install Traveler from the app store.

Home Drive and Network Folder Maintenance Scheduled for 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, April 6.

At 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, April 6, OIT will conduct routine maintenance on networked file services. The work is expected to be finished by 4 a.m. 
 
The following services will be unavailable: 
  • All Home Directories
  • Student Group and Class Folders
  • Staff Group and Department Folders (including Annual Evaluations and Conflict of Interest)
  • Software Repositories 
  • Network Applications Folders 

WebCampus maintenance at 12:30 a.m. on April 1, 2014

Tonight at 12:30 a.m., the Office of Information Technology will conduct emergency maintenance on WebCampus to fix discussion board and database performance issues.

To avoid losing any work, please log off of WebCampus and do not use the system until maintenance is complete. An announcement will be posted on the WebCampus homepage, webcampus.unlv.edu.

Home Drive Maintenance Scheduled for 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, March 23.

The Office of Information Technology will conduct OIT File Services maintenance during the regularly scheduled maintenance window, 12:01 a.m. until approximately 6 a.m., on Sunday, March 23.

During this time, network home directories and group folders for students, faculty, and staff will be intermittently unavailable. Servers will be taken offline and brought back online individually as maintenance is completed.

The maintenance will upgrade OIT File Services to the latest software version.

Internet service will be unavailable on Sunday, March 16 from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.

On Sunday, March 16 from 6 p.m. until approximately 10 p.m., the Office of Information Technology will replace internet firewall equipment and update network settings.

During this time, internet service will not be available on campus. Emails sent to users off campus will be queued and delivered when service is restored.

Windows XP, Office 2003 End of Life Less Than One Month Away

On April 8, Microsoft will no longer support or provide security updates for Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003.

Without updates and security patches, computers running Windows XP and Office 2003 will be extremely vulnerable to computer viruses and are a serious threat to campus computer security.

If you are currently running XP or Office 2003, please contact the IT Help Desk to have your system upgraded. Many systems eligible for upgrade can be serviced and returned within two to three days.

Intermittent WiFi outage to perform maintenance, Monday, March 3, from 11 p.m. - midnight.

This evening, from 11 p.m. to midnight, the Office of Information Technology will perform system updates to WiFi access points. The update should resolve several issues, including an issue with some users being disconnected from the WiFi network.

During maintenance, WiFi will be intermittently unavailable. While most buildings will be closed at this time, the residential halls WiFi network (ResNet) will be affected.
