Between 8:04 AM - 8:34 AM Tuesday, December 15 Lotus Notes Domino 6 service was unavailable. System administrators rebooted the server to resolve the cause of the incident.


December 14, 2009 - 10:00am

From 8:39 AM to 9:38 AM Monday, December 14 all Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) in Archie C. Grant Hall (GRA) reported on battery and one access point stopped responding to monitoring probes.  All devices have moved from battery to building power and the access point has begun responding again. The incident was caused when someone power washing in the area accidentally sprayed the shunt trip breaker which tripped the circuit breaker to the building.

At 6:00 AM Sunday, December 13 after the completion of scheduled maintenance, several clients (applications and users) were unable to connect to an Oracle server supporting WebGrading and Employee lookup.  The server settings were changed and users were able to access WebGrading and Employee Lookup by 4:00 PM.

From 4:30 AM to 6:25 AM Sunday, December 13, there was a disruption to the WebCampus system causing users accessing WebCampus to be disconnected. Service has been restored.  System administrators are working with the vendor to verify root cause.

Between 8:06 AM – 9:15 AM Tuesday, December 08, 2009 currently enrolled students’ UNLV Wireless accounts were disabled. Administrators reactivated the affected accounts. Incident was due to an issue experienced during the morning import to the Wireless account database.  No other student accounts were reported affected.

In mid to late Spring 2010, Google will power UNLV’s e-mail system for students, Rebelmail. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) has a few technical details to work out, but below are answers to some common questions regarding the transition:

On Thursday, December 3, 2009, 5:15 PM, OIT will modify the default DNS search suffix provided automatically when a network device (computer, printer, etc.) connects to networks managed by OIT,  from to NeVaDa.EdU. This change is not expected to cause any service disruption or impact. The change is being made in preparation for a larger project to move from to as the default search suffix automatically provided to computers and other network devices.

Between 1:06-2:11 pm on Monday, November 30th, phone service was interrupted in Greenspun Hall, GUA, 3rd floor. Engineers temporarily fixed the device that failed to provide power to the phones. They will schedule a replacement of the network equipment at a later date.

At 4:05 am on Wednesday, November 25, 2009, Webcampus has been restored and verified as operational by OIT staff.

At 1:57 am on Wednesday, November 11, OIT became aware of a disruption to the Webcampus system.  The nature of the problem and an estimate of repair time are currently unknown.  System administrators are working to identify and resolve the issue.
