Between 12:39 PM - 12:45 PM today, Friday, August 21, 2009, multiple buildings at the Shadow Lane Campus (SLC) experienced brief disruptions of connectivity. Networking devices did not reboot or lose power. Network connectivity is restored and network devices are responding to monitoring probes correctly. The scope and root cause of these disruptions are unknown at this time. NDE is aware and working on the issue.

At 1:00 AM, Friday, August 21, 2009, Network Development & Engineering temporarily installed two additional access points in the Boyd School of Law (BSL) first floor to decrease the load per access point in the building. NDE continues to troubleshoot the issues customers experienced while accessing UNLV Wireless in BSL yesterday.

The latest version of Symantec Antivirus is now available: Symantec Endpoint Antivirus v.11 for Windows XP and Vista. The Mac version remains the same at this time.

Please use the Symantec Antivirus Installations available on the OIT website. The links to the installations require you to log in with your Lotus Notes web username and password.

Between 2:40 PM and 2:53 PM, Friday, August 14, 2009 network connectivity was lost to the buildings listed below. The root cause was related to maintenance being conducted for the GUA Broadcast network. Changes to the configuration on a router located in BEH resulted in the outage. OIT staff rebooted the router and restored its previous configuration. Network connectivity has been restored.

August 13, 2009 - 12:04pm

Between 11:53 and 12:33 am on 08/13/09, the network switch that provides service to the Harry Reid Center  stopped responding to monitoring probes. The outage was due to damaged fiber connecting to the switch. NDE replaced the faulty fiber and the switch was able to connect again.

New hardware has been purchased for WebCampus that will improve the speed of the service for users as well as provide more redundancy for both the application and database. This upgrade will result in no changes to the user interface as no changes are being made to the application.

The 1st &The 1st & 2nd floors of BEH now have full wireless (Wi-Fi) coverage. The Office of Information Technology installed seven new access points on Monday, April 28th.

At the end of May, the 1st floor of BSL will have high-density Wi-Fi coverage as well, thanks to funding provided by the Law School.

OIT continues to expand Wi-Fi as funding becomes available.

Between 9:39 and 10:53 AM, Monday, July 27, 2009 multiple customers in SSC C (Cashier’s office) were unable to print from UNLV's Student Information System, SIS. Customers in SSC A were also reporting errors when printing from SIS. The problem was caused by incorrect firewall settings that permit traffic to pass between UNLV and the Student Information Systems. We fixed those configurations and the problem is resolved.
